Calming The Storms

Most of us [I actually think all on this earth], especially men, but women are included, have been through tough times. It could have been financial, marital, friendships, business or work places, even our health. Some have just had it worse than others. Some made it through while others never survived their storms of life. Others were just determined to get up and move forward again while others were just too sapped to even attempt. I have personally met men who are living in the gutters today who had everything in life – work/businesses, families and possessions. Today they live in the trenches of poverty because they just gave up. Even today, before writing this post, I met a man at a place of future disaster. I had an opportunity to chat with him, and spoke about salvation and the grace of God. Whether we cross paths again I can’t say; he was drunk, but thanked me for the time we had together. I trust we’ll see each other again.

John 6:18 speaks of the following; “A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough.” Life has storms at all times. Some become “seasonal”, others just happen; some a few times and others a once off. We all face storms that come in the course of life. We can’t jump around them. We all go through rough times, dark times and difficult seasons. As we know it, that’s life. God never promised us lives without trials, good health, financial burdens and whatever else. There is one thing we need to do while these storms are “throwing” us around. We must allow God to be with us during these times. The storms may not disappear overnight, some taking longer than others. But with God by our sides during these seasons, we get strength and power from him to overcome them. Without Him the chances of recuperating are minimal. He offers us the best way to walk and live through these storms.

When we receive God into our lives, or allow Jesus Christ into our lives totally, He starts to calm these storms. He is the best One who can calm these storms. He promised us one thing for sure.  He promised never to leave us or to forsake us. Yes, there are many promises from God in the bible, in His Word. As you read the bible you discover these promises along the way. When I do, I pray and lay claim to them in Jesus’ mighty Name. He is my Saviour God!  These are my strength in times “of need” and despair. My life has had its fill of storms, some small and others far above my grades, but God took me through them all. It wasn’t easy and the ride was not always smooth. Yet today I praise even the more for what He did for me. He still calmed my storms. I know these are not the last of them, but I also know they will not be as severe as the past. Why? My personal relationship with my loving God has grown to new levels and, because of this, I believe in Him and trust Him in every part of my life’s journey.

Romans 6:27 is an inspiring verse, a “picker up” verse for the times storms are gripping your life. It takes you to a calmness during the storms – “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” With Jesus by your side and in your life, the Father makes it possible to endure a good life, even one while storms are attacking. Don’t work towards your own plans of rescue, but work towards the eternal plans God has for you through Christ Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life. He is the best Calmer of life’s storms. He is your Tower of refuge and the strong arms that embrace you during your storms. Accept Jesus Christ today and believe in Him. See how life gets easier and storms look smaller.
